Our Story

I finally have decided to start my own blog. Although I created this blog a while ago it has taken me a long time to write this first post. I was hoping that I would be pregnant by now and that I could have a blog about pregnancy instead of a blog about infertility. But atlas, it seems the universe has other plans for me.

I have been lurking on other infertility blogs for several months and love the community that I have seen. I think it is finally time that I join in. And medically speaking, tomorrow will be 1 year of trying to conceive, so I will officially be infertile.

So here is my back story:

My husband K and I started dating in high school. We went to college together and got married after graduating. We have been married for 2.5 years. I am a medical student and he works with computers.

We started trying to conceive in January 2011. My mom had been diagnosed with brain cancer and I wanted to have a child while she was alive. I came off of my birth control and 50 days later no period – I must be pregnant right? Took a test, BFN. So I go into my OB/GYN who says I didn’t ovulate and puts me on provera to induce my period. Repeat exactly the same scenario twice more. K and I decide to be more proactive, as I still have not ovulated after 6 months. So I started on clomid and try 50, 100, and 150 mg with no ovulation on any dose. During this time my mom passes away. I was completely devastated, but we kept ttc the whole time.

My OB/GYN refers me to an RE who has me try femara. We also preform a SA on K for good measure and discover he has low sperm count and motility so she recommends we do IUIs. We try one cycle with femara and IUI but get a BFN. Then we try a second cycle with just femara, as we were on vacation during my fertile window, another BFN. We are currently at the start of a new cycle and meeting with our RE to discuss our plans for this cycle.

I hope that this blog can tell our story. I will do my best to be open and honest. If you realize while reading this blog that you know us in real life please talk to me about it – we could all use a friend during this journey.
